    Purchasing Toys

When purchasing toys, you not only have to consider what kind of toy you are looking for you also have to consider what it is made from. This section will not only list the different types of toys on the market, but also what they are made from.

Even though we do not stock low quality toys made from certain materials, we have still listed those materials here for your reference. If you have any questions or are looking for clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us, and we will do what we can to assist you.

    TYPES OF TOYS

    VIBRATORS  |  DILDOS/DONGS  |  FURNITURE  |  ANAL  |  BONDAGE/S&M  |  COCK RINGS

    VIBRATORS

Traditional – Traditional vibrators are generally made from hard plastic (Though not always) and shaped like a ‘missile’.

They can be used externally on the body as well as for penetration or direct clitoral stimulation. When not turned on for vibration, they act very similar to an inflexible dildo. They tend not to be realistically shaped like a penis, though are available in many different shapes and sizes.

Clitoral – Vibrators made for powerful direct clitoral stimulation are not phallic in shape and are generally much smaller and compact. These devices are not meant for penetration. Since they are created for a singular purpose, they usually conform to the rounded shape of the pelvic area for comfort, or are shaped like small eggs, bullets or lipstick. These types of vibrators are great for keeping in a purse or for travel.

G-Spot – Shaped similar to traditional vibrators, these gems have a bent tip or curve at the end of them for direct G-Spot contact and stimulation. Since   firm pressure is needed for proper G-Spot stimulation, these types of vibrators are very rigid and do not flex much.

Hands Free – Usually created in fun shapes such as butterflies, the majority of hands free devices are held in place with the use of a harness. Some come with wired or wireless remote controls to vary speed and vibrations.

The newer styles of hands free (Such as the Rock Chick or the We-Vibe) are actually inserted into the vagina and wrap around the clitoral area for simultaneous internal and external stimulation. This is similar to dual action vibrators.

Dual Action – Sex and the City and Oprah fans were introduced to “The Rabbit Habit”, the most popular dual action vibrator on the market. This kind of toy delivers penetration and clitoral stimulation at the same time.

In the case of the Rabbit Habit, it’s protruding rabbit ears stimulate the clit while the shaft works the vagina with it’s rotating pearls and vibration! This translates into less work and more pleasure all around. In the case of the We-Vibe or Rock Chick, you get G-Spot and Clitoral stimulation.

    DILDOS/DONGS

Another big seller in the toy industry, the dildo (or dong) is usually shaped like a penis. There are dildos created for general vaginal use, which are referred to as ‘traditional’ and are made with everything from silicone to Cyberskin, they vary greatly in shapes and sizes.

There are also dildos created for use with a harness or for anal play, these have a flat or flaring base. The base allows the dildo to be inserted into a harness or into the anus without the fear of it sliding in (More on this in the anal category). Straight and gay couples use harness and strap ons. For straight couples, it may be for double penetration, or maybe the girl wants to penetrate her man.

    FURNITURE

Meant to assist in body positioning, furniture will not only expand sexual horizons, but it will also provide a more comfortable experience for both partners. In the case of elderly or disabled couples, different types of furniture will allow for sexual positions and enjoyment that would not otherwise be possible.

The most common piece of furniture is the Sex Swing. Reducing weight and gravity, the swing allows one to move their partner around with ease and allows for a supported, comfortable position that helps to reduce fatigue and muscle strain.

There is also furniture from the likes of Liberator and Love Bumper that can greatly extend your sexual creativity. The great part is that they are also made to increase comfort when attempting these new and exciting positions.

    ANAL

Probably the most taboo of the sex toys (and sexual pleasures in general), there are quite a few toys on the market for anal joy.

Dills and Vibes - There are, of course, the anal dildos and vibrators. Usually flared at the bottom, this prevents them from slipping inside your body, a must have when exploring this area. Many dildos available also have space to slip in a vibrating bullet to make it a flexible vibrating toy. If researching vibrators for the purpose of anal play, take a look at G-Spot vibrators. They have the bent tip which will allows for more efficient prostate simulation.

Plugs – While many people recognize a butt-plug as having a diamond like shape with a wide base, there is a whole new generation of anal stimulators on the market. Now in shapes that seem random and odd, these new breeds of ‘prostate simulators’ are meticulously researched and manufactured for premium stimulation, especially in men.

Beads – Appearing like a snake that swallowed a multitude of grapes, beads have been used for both anal and vaginal stimulation. Normally used for anal play, they are inserted into the anus and slowly pulled out to create gratifying sensations while stimulating the prostate, especially at the peak of orgasm.

    BONDAGE/S&M

There is a common misconception that bondage is all pain and torture, it's far from it. Basic bondage and S&M can be as small as a pair of cuffs and a feather tickler to beyond a set of Sportsheets (A Velcro type bedsheet that allows couples to place anchor pads anywhere on the bed and tie down their partner).

Many couples find this kind of play very erotic, and it allows each partner the chance to experience dominating/dominated behaviour. Bring a blindfold and a tickler into the mix and the possibilities are endless! While not for everybody, a majority of couples have experimented with light bondage at some point in their sexual careers, whether it was getting a little rough or if they have enjoyed being spanked. Check out our bondage section in the toy box and see if anything tickles your fancy.

    COCK RINGS

Rings have the basic purpose of allowing men to retain erections for longer periods of time. Positioned around the base of the penis, or around the shaft and scrotum, a cock ring will help keep the erection causing blood, in place. They should never be smaller than the diameter of your shaft as it would be difficult to put on and remove, or could cut off circulation entirely.

Adjustable cock rings are available, which are great for beginners. There are also many models available with mini vibrating bullets that will help stimulate behind the scrotum, or if worn on top, the clitoris of your partner. It is very important that measuring is performed correctly (And double checked) before purchasing a cock ring.

Due to the delicate nature of cock rings, it is VERY important that you measure properly. You cannot return these items and an improper size could pose a serious risk to your penis.

    PRODUCT MATERIALS

    SILICONE  |  ELASTOMER  |  GLASS  |  METAL  |  PLASTIC  |  SOFT VINYL  |  JELLY  |  CYBERSKIN  |  LATEX

    SILICONE

Silicone is one of the most popular and highly regarded ingredients used in sex toys today. It is a non-porous material that is able to endure extreme temperatures which allows for total disinfection. Because cheap toys are able to advertise themselves as ‘silicone’ with as little as 10% silicone in their product, it is important to ensure that you purchase products that are 100% food or medical grade silicone.

Most manufacturers who make 100% silicone toys will note this on their packaging, but if you are unsure double check before making a purchase. Medical grade silicone is hypoallergenic, hygienic and dishwasher safe. These kinds of toys are able to be boiled (remember to remove any vibes beforehand!) for 4-5 minutes for disinfection. Because they retain heat, these kinds of toys will warm quickly to your body. They are generally made seamless, so there is no worry about sharp edges that may cut or scrape you.

It is recommended that you use a water-based lubricant with these toys. While you are still able to use a silicone-based lubricant with 100% silicone toys, a water-based lubricant more closely matches a woman’s natural lubrication and is much less likely to cause a reaction.

    ELASTOMER

Elastomer based products are phthalates free and completely different from PVC vinyl. While PVC vinyl materials contain phthalates to soften the material, Elastomers start out soft and are made hard by adding products to it. There are no latex or solvents used in this process, which makes it very practical for use in sex toys.

Toys made from Elastomer are soft and gentle, higher quality than rubber or jelly toys and will provide you with years of enjoyment.

    GLASS

Glass toys are made from laboratory grade Pyrex glass (Also known as Borosilicate glass). These toys are extremely durable, though they may shatter when dropped. Always check glass toys for nicks, chips or cracks before use! If your glass toys has any type of damage, get rid of it immediately.

While toys that use colored glass have increased in popularity over the years, always make sure they are not painted! Colored glass must be coated VERY thick with Pyrex in order to be safe. DO NOT USE glass toys that appear to be painted.

    METAL

There a few different types of metal used in different toys on the market, including aeronautic grade aluminum, chrome alloy and stainless steel. While these toys are usually cold to the touch, they warm quickly and are very durable. They are non-porous and can be cleaned and sterilized by almost any means. Check out our care and cleaning section for more info.

You should never purchase metal toys that are not completely smooth or have been painted in any way.

    PLASTIC

Non-porous and non-bendable, plastic toys are very common, especially among vibrators. It is imperative that you purchase higher quality merchandise that does not have rough edges or seams that could cause tears or scratches inside your body (Or outside for that matter!).

While a majority of the plastic based products are made for external use, there are still many that can be used for penetration. These toys can be easily cleaned with soap and water or toy cleaners.

    SOFT VINYL

Due to their porous nature, it is recommended that you use condoms when playing with soft vinyl toys. This will not only add to the safety of using them, but it will aid in the cleaning process (Use soap and water, DO NOT BOIL). While these toys last longer than jelly rubber materials, a silicone based product will last longer and is still one of the most popular and recommended sex toy materials.

    JELLY

Jelly rubber toys have always been a popular choice because of their inexpensive nature, however, they are known for containing phthalates. Toys that contain phthalates have been associated with negative health issues.

These toys are also very porous and cannot be disinfected; therefore you MUST USE CONDOMS with all Jelly based toys to avoid infections. We do not carry, or recommend these types of toys.

    CYBERSKIN

Cyberskin toys are well known for their realistic look and feel, but they are also known for being a porous material that cannot be disinfected. If you are using toys made from Cyberskin, ALWAYS USE A CONDOM to avoid infections. Cheaply made cyberskin toys may also contain phthalates. Always clean cyberskin toys with anti-bacterial soap and water after use, store in a cool, dry place and it is recommended to keep them in a plastic bag with a small amount of ‘CyberSkin Renew’ so your toy maintains it’s soft, lifelike texture.

    LATEX

Due to it’s low cost and resilient nature, latex toys have become quite popular. While the majority of products that use latex are condoms, fake vaginas and some fetish clothing, you must be wary about dildos that are made with latex. It is a very porous material and should only be used with a condom. They do not conform well to your body and will wear much faster than silicone toys.

Latex allergies have known to result in rashes, shortness of breath, sneezing and even anaphylactic shock. Ensure you do not have allergies if purchasing this type of product.

    What are Phthalates?

Phthalates, or phthalate esters, are esters of phthalic acid and are mainly used as plasticizers (substances added to plastics to increase their flexibility). They are chiefly used to soften polyvinyl chloride. Phthalates are being phased out of many products over health concerns.
